The wrong answers
No. 1 Keep the Ten Commandments – Trying our best to keep the Ten Commandments cannot save us, but they do show that we are all sinners.
For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.James 2:10
No. 2 Be sorry and confess your sins – Being sorry for sins or confessing sins to God does not take away sin. The payment or penalty for sin is death; eternal separation from God, in Hell.
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.Romans 6:23
No. 3, 4 Sincerely do your best or stop sinning – Doing your best or trying to stop sinning would be great, if it were possible. But since Heaven is perfect, we must also be perfect to go there.
And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb’s book of life.Revelation 21:27
No. 5, 6 Do good deeds or give money to church – No amount of good deeds or money given to churches can take away sin.
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.Ephesians 2:8-9
No. 7 Water baptism or communion – Water baptism or communion cannot pay for sins. They are only for those who are already saved.
Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;Titus 3:5
No. 8 I don’t believe in Heaven / Hell – To believe there is a Heaven or Hell, one must believe there is a God. I cannot make a person believe that, except to say what God says in His word:
The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God …Psalms 14:1
No. 9 Trust in Jesus Christ and serve Him – Incorrect! To trust in Jesus Christ is to be saved by grace (without charge). To include serving Him would mean you must also add works to something that is FREE. That would contradict what the Holy Bible says.
And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.Romans 11:6
The correct answer
No. 10 Trust in Jesus Christ as my only hope – Yes! This is the only way to get to Heaven. All you have to do is believe that when the Lord Jesus Christ (God in the flesh) died on the cross, He paid for all your sins and rose again to give to you, at the very moment you trust Him, the FREE gift of eternal life.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.John 3:16
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath (means right now!) everlasting life.John 6:47
Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:John 11:25
What you should do now
Doesn’t it make sense to trust the only one who came back from the dead as your only hope of going to Heaven?
Right now (in the best way you know how), tell the Lord Jesus Christ that you believe that He paid for your sins when He died, was buried, and rose again, and that you trust Him to take you to Heaven when you die.
These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life …1 John 5:13
Jesus Christ died – that’s History!
Jesus Christ died for me – that’s Salvation!
Now that you believe
You are now saved, so rest in the knowledge and comfort that God has forgiven your sins (past, present, and future), and that Heaven is your home. God is now your Heavenly Father, and He will never cast you out or lose you – you are His child for all eternity.
If we obey our Heavenly Father, it will produce in this life love, joy, peace, and happiness.
Read Romans 6:16, and Galatians 5:22-23.
If we disobey our Heavenly Father, He will indeed chasten us in this life, but our punishment will never be Hell. God deals with us now as a loving Father deals with His children; for the purpose of teaching us so that we can receive more of His wonderful blessings in this life and eternity.
Read Proverbs 3:11-12, 1 Corinthians 11:32, and Hebrews 12:5-7.
Get to know God
Get yourself a copy of God’s inspired and preserved word, the Authorized Version King James Holy Bible, and read it every day; perhaps start with the Gospel of John.
Pray and talk to God always. You are now His child, and His Holy Spirit lives within you to help and guide you every day.
Let others know that you have trusted Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour, and share with them how they too can know the only way to Heaven.
